sailor-mnemosyne:

Mnemosyne gave another heavy sigh as Lethe talked about Galaxia and her memories. “I know it’s difficult. And I’m sure that with time she will understand it all. But I just feel useless for now.” With Lethe’s gentle touch Mnemosyne turned her face to her sister, her wide eyes shimmering lightly, her sadness and helplessness evident in the unshed tears. Mnemosyne knew she could trust Lethe with her feelings. Although Mnemosyne had needed some time to work out her concerns; she could open up with Lethe. She could let down her guard with her sister, because she would always protect her.

“It’s more than just the memories I’m worried about,” she started, unsure of how to describe it, “She’s just been strange. I don’t understand why she was more worried about the Galaxy Cauldron than usual. I haven’t sensed anything particularly unusual about it. I haven’t physically checked, but I don’t understand what has caused her concern for it.” Her hand caught the edge of her cloak and toyed with a loose strand in a nervous gesture before she continued, looking down, “I just… don’t understand her. I don’t understand what she wants. Her…somewhat lack of decorum confuses me. She uses her words so lightly and freely. She says one thing that I attempt to interpret, and then says another that completely debunks my theory. I just wish I understood… what she intends; what she wants me to be.” Although she fought it, Mnemosyne could help but think of the small things she had thought had indicated a proposal of friendship from Her Majesty. Yet she would still leave for long lengths of time without a second thought. Mnemosyne tried to remind herself that she was a mere servant of the Queen, but she still managed to misinterpret the Queen’s intentions.

Mnemosyne couldn’t help but stare at her sister as she proposed a distraction. It wasn’t as though they lived close to anything, nor did they have any more ties to other planets. As far as Mnemosyne could tell, they had nowhere else they could go. “You want us to… go away?” Mnemosyne asked, her brow furrowed in confusion, “Where could we possibly go?”

“Oh, Mne-chan, you don’t have to be anything other than your own sweet self…” Mne-chan, it was the nickname that Lethe had given her twin when they were both small children and Mnemosyne was too hard for her to pronounce. It reminded her of happier times, but it was special, she only used it when the two were alone. “She is scared right now, she is not used to having anyone she can count on. Give her time and I’m sure she will open up to you. No one could help do otherwise when you are so kind and understanding, precious girl.” She took her twin into an embrace. How she loved her. She would even speak kindly about Galaxia, though it was far from how she felt. She still saw Galaxia as selfish, but she would protect her sister from this, just like she had protected her from the knowledge of war until it was upon them and even innocent Mnemosyne could be protected no more.

“I’m happy wherever we go, so long as I can be with you, but I thought perhaps you might like to go to Earth. You have friends there and it is a peaceful planet. Here by our rivers, it is peaceful too, but Earth has a different quality of peace, it is a lively peace. I think it is just the place to take your mind off of all your worries, sister.”

Mnemosyne closed her eyes and hugged her sister back, a small smile gracing her face. She hummed a small sound of contentment and looked up at her sister, pleased for the moment with Lethe’s explanation. “That makes sense. Thank you, Lethe-chan.” Mnemosyne closed her eyes and lay her head on her sister’s shoulder for a few more moments before Lethe started talking about Earth. Her eyebrows crinkled in though as she recalled her short time on earth in that grassy field with the carefree children. But Earth is a planet of peace. That explained how they could all be so gleeful. It seemed heavenly; a planet that was peaceful, yet lively. Children could be children; carefree and joyful.

But then, Mnemosyne had been happy once. As a child, before she knew anything of the war, while she was still naïve enough to think that the battle training was for no greater reason – she hadn’t been unlike those children. More subdued perhaps, but still happy. She had thought all was well in the universe. She had thought all was peaceful. And then, all of the sudden it wasn’t anymore. Nothing was ever peaceful for her planet again. ‘A whole planet, completely entrusted to peace?’ a sad sceptical spoke to her mind, ‘It is not possible. It may seem like there is amity, but one day they will find out that it was all just an illusion’.

Shaking her head lightly, Mnemosyne broke from her thoughts. She hadn’t answered Lethe yet and she didn’t want to worry her sister with her silence. After one last moment of thought, Mnemosyne slowly replied, “What can we do on Earth? Will we be visiting Her Majesty?”

Edit: And I just realised how very little Mnemosyne actually said out loud in this post. If you’re stumped as to what to say, feel free to add in Mnemosyne transporting them to Earth wherever you like. If not, well, carry on. :)
